To know a forest you start with roots As part of Jamii’s Laini initiative (a leadership mentoring initiative for young women in our neighbourhood), ten youths were invited to design and curate a series of portraits that encapsulate the stories of participating older adults' in the community through creative writing and photography. The creative process was facilitated by co-leaders Maysam Abu Khreibeh and Ana Higuera. This beautiful exhibit is free and includes the unveiling and launch, live music, an artists' panel discussion and more! Ontario Line Update: King St. E & Berkeley St. Today, the province released the initial renderings of 14 stations along the 15.6 kilometre Ontario Line that will provide rapid transit between Exhibition/Ontario Place and the Ontario Science Centre. The initial station renderings show early planning and design concepts for the Ontario Line stations, which will connect to more than 40 other transit routes, including GO train lines, existing TTC subway and streetcar lines, and the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit line. Pictured above is the rendering for the station in our neighbourhood (still to be named) and it will be located at the corner of King St. E. and Berkeley St. Read Metrolinx update for our neighbourhood station here. St. Lawrence Rec. Centre News Market Lane Park Consultation ST The City is improving Market Lane Park, located at 149 King St. E, adjacent to the North St. Lawrence Market building. The park is part of a network of public spaces being improved in the growing St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood, which has a deep cultural history and archeological significance. The park design will be informed by feedback from the local community, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities. Virtual Community Workshops March 28, 2022 City staff are hosting two identical virtual workshops where you can learn more about the park improvements and see the preferred design. But given that PAL, The Performing Arts Lodge, is also in the neighbourhood, I’m hardly unique. Actually there are so many actors around these parts, you couldn’t swing a cat without hitting one! And, like all of them (and many of you) our livelihoods pretty much evaporated 2 years ago when Covid 19 arrived on our doorsteps. The SLNA Waste Reduction Group wants to thank St. Lawrence Neighbourhood residents for their donations to REmarket. We also want to thank our partners (St. Lawrence Market, St. Lawrence Market BIA, Salvation Army, Renewed Computer Technologies (RCT), Prosthetics for Foreign Donation (PFFD Inc.), Optic Zone and Staples), and our WRG volunteers for making this third donation event such a success.
