Nomination Process
The Board consists of a maximum of eight Directors, and each year, positions on the Board of Directors expire.
The SLNA Board invites all Delegates to nominate candidates for open positions of Director of the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association. Directors are elected to the Board for terms of up to three years and are not elected to specific positions. At its first meeting following the AGM, the new Board will elect its officers and, where Board positions with different terms were open, will determine the term for each newly elected Director.
Directors must be Delegates and nominations can be made in three ways:
1) candidates may self-nominate;
2) candidates may be nominated in advance by another Delegate; the candidate must agree to serve if elected;
3) candidates may be nominated by another Delegate at the AGM; candidates must be present and agree to serve if elected.
(Note: if the AGM is virtual, nominations may not be accepted from the floor.)
Nominations received by the Nominations Committee Chair at least 48 hours prior to the AGM in March will appear on pre-printed ballots and will be posted. The names of the candidates nominated after this deadline will be added to the ballots at the AGM. (Note: if the AGM is virtual, ballots may not be printed but may be made available in electronic form.)
Candidates will be invited to present a short statement prior to the voting.
The Candidate receiving the greatest number of votes will be elected. In years when more than one Board position is open, the candidate with the second highest number of votes will be elected to the second open position; the Candidate with the third highest number of votes to the third open position, and so on until a Candidate has been elected to all of the open positions.
In order for any of its Delegates to be eligible to be nominated and/or to vote, a housing group’s Membership Fee for the current membership year must be received by the Treasurer prior to the start of the AGM. Delegates names must also be confirmed by their housing group prior to the start of the AGM.
