Heritage Lighting

Heritage Lighting

  1. Heritage street-lighting is not really under the purview of the Heritage Committee as it is well covered in the May 2015 St Lawrence Market BIA Master Plan.  Individual installations are covered during major streetscape projects – on which the SLNA has representation through the BIA Streetscape Committee.

  2. Heritage building illumination is, however, something that the  Committee is very interested in and we want to build on the work done over the past few years by both the City and private building owners.  Several private owners have illuminated the facades of their buildings (e.g. Front Street East at Berczy Park and King Street East at George.)

The City has illuminated

  • St Lawrence Hall
  • St. Lawrence (South) Market
  • St. James Cathedral - in conjunction with the Anglican Church
  • The Sony Centre

The City has plans for the illumination of:

  • Young People’s Theatre

As the City owns other architecturally interesting buildings in our area, the Committee intends to work with the City to use Section 37 ‘heritage’ funds to illuminate:

  • The 51 Division Police Station
  • The Alumnae Theatre on Berkeley Street
  • The Berkeley Street Theatre
