Heritage Committee
Though the SLNA has been concerned about heritage for many years, in 2016 a Heritage Committee was established with the following mandate:
The SLNA Heritage Committee shall advocate for heritage preservation, interpretation and commemoration in the SLNA area and in particular will:
1. Work with the City, our Councillor and others to ensure that the St Lawrence Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District Plan (adopted by the City in December 2015) is fully implemented, monitored and improved as necessary.
2. Work with our Councillor and City Staff to develop the St Lawrence Residential Neighbourhood Conservation District Plan as recommended by the St Lawrence HCD Study. (July 2014).
3. Work with Heritage Preservation Services, Heritage Toronto and others to ensure suitable buildings in the SLNA are are listed or designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
4. Work with Heritage Toronto and others to ensure listed and designated buildings in the SLNA area are suitably plaqued and interpreted.
5. Work to ensure heritage is celebrated in our neighbourhood by, among other things:
a. working with others towards improving the heritage lighting of suitable buildings.
b. working with others to commemorate the original Lake Ontario Shoreline (as recommended in the St Lawrence CIP of 2007 and the Heritage Interpretation Plan for Old Town Toronto.
c. working on raising awareness of heritage issues and opportunities in the St Lawrence area
