Message from our Ward 10 Councillor:Jan. 16 Budget Town Hall

Happy new year! I hope you had a chance to see family and friends, rest and recharge. I am excited to keep working with you to make the city we love a place where we all thrive.

And that starts with the 2024 City Budget! The Budget Committee’s draft budget will be released Wednesday, January 10.

As we know, budgets convey priorities. With new leadership at City Hall, this year’s budget will  outline the City’s path forward. It is more important than ever for you to have your say on what we need to prioritize as a City, whether it’s affordable housing, public transit and safer roads, accessible community services, more public spaces, or maybe something not currently being discussed.

On Tuesday, January 16, from 6 to 8 pm, I will be hosting a budget town hall with Councillor Chris Moise at City Hall, and virtually through Zoom. We will be going over what is proposed and how you can be involved. Join us to learn about the budget process, and how together we can build a green, just, caring Toronto.

RSVP Here

Let's keep working together to make it happen!

Ausma Malik
Deputy Mayor
Councillor for Ward 10
Spadina–Fort York

REmarket FAQ 2: FreeMarket

♻️ Want to directly impact your local community with your unwanted goods? Donate them to our FreeMarket event!

FreeMarket is run as part of the WRG’s www.slnREmarket event, and it’s basically a free thrift store where community members can donate and take items as they please, completely free of charge!

We accept most common household items, including clothes, shoes, accessories, kitchen items, textiles, decorative items, books, toys, games, and certain types of electronics.

So get your reusable shopping bags ready, and come check FreeMarket out on January 24 & 25, 2024, at the St. Lawrence Market (@stlawrencemarket ) in @oldtowntoronto .

Hope to see you there! See poster below for details or visit the REmarket centre on the SLNA website here.

REmarket FAQs 1: DONATIONS

As we all prepare to identify those household items that can be taken to the
St. Lawrence neighbourhood’s 9th REmarket on January 24 and 25, we thought we would share some information regarding frequently asked questions. In this issue of the newsletter we look at questions regarding DONATIONS.

Did you know that we accept many common items for donation at our REmarket event?

You can donate items in almost any condition, including:

  • Clothes, shoes, and accessories (no wet or smelly items)
  • Textiles in any condition (but not damp or smelly)
  • Household items (e.g., kitchen items, knickknacks, and decorative items)
  • Books and magazines (all kinds)
  • Art, school, and office supplies
  • Prescription eyeglasses (with or without a case)
  • Technological items, including phones and computers (data wiped)
  • Children’s toys and games
  • Mobility aids (e.g., canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, and prosthetics)
  • DVDs, CDs, video games, cassettes, and VHS tapes

Items that are usable will be included in our FreeMarket or will be redistributed, refurbished, or upcycled by our charity partners, including the Salvaltion Army.
