The strategic plan for the Association will be presented for approval at the SLNA Annual General Meeting on March 25. Download Proposed SLNA Strategic Plan Quayside Consultation - Feb. 29 Waterfront Toronto has completed the technical evaluation of Sidewalk Labs' proposal for Quayside and will now share and seek feedback on the outcomes of the evaluation, including whether the proposal addresses the pressing urban challenges we undertook to address. The SLNA encourages residents of the St. Lawrence neighbourhood to join the project team for the second round of consultations on Sidewalk Labs' proposal for Quayside. Two identical interactive public meetings will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, 1 Harbour Square. Agenda The morning meeting will run from: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.The afternoon meeting will run from: 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. For further details on the meeting and how to get there, visit the Eventbrite page. The first 30 minutes of both meetings will be a drop-in format with time to review display boards and talk to Waterfront Toronto staff. Presentations and discussions will start at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm. The discussion guide for this round of consultations, as well as the Quayside Evaluation Committee Report, are also available on our website. We encourage you to read through these materials in advance of the meeting; physical copies of these materials will also be available on the day of the consultations. First Parliament Site Event The City of Toronto has been working to recognize the First Parliament site, a historically significant property at the intersection of Front and Parliament Streets. The site represents the political, social, and industrial forces that helped shape the city. The First Parliament Project is holding another Public Open House on March 31, 2020 at 6:15 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Market Tent. The team has completed Phase 1 of the project, and Phase 2 is well underway. This open house will serve as an update on the current state of the project and will invite your feedback to inform the continued development of the project. Phase 1 involved the preparation of a Heritage Interpretation Strategy for the site. Based on research and a robust public engagement program, the Heritage Interpretation Strategy sets out a framework and recommendations for the interpretation of the site’s heritage. An Overview Summary of the report can be found online here. Phase 2 involves the development of a Master Plan for the First Parliament site. The first step was to develop a draft Vision with First Principles and a series of master plan explorations. This material was presented to stakeholders and the general public in October 2019 for review and comment. The presentations generated lively and productive discussion, which has guided work since. At the upcoming public open house on March 31, the team will present the refined Vision and First Principles and a preliminary Demonstration Plan for the First Parliament site. Following a question and answer session, participants will be invited to provide comments, opinions, and ideas for the continued development of the Plan. ALL delegates are invited to nominate candidates for the SLNA Board of Directors. The election for open positions will take place in March at the regularly scheduled monthly SLNA meeting for delegates and the community (March 25, 2020). As a result of Director terms ending and prior resignations we have five board openings as follows:
The SLNA Community Meeting takes place ten times per year and the Board normally meets once a month. Currently the Board meeting is held the second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Returning to the board to complete their terms are: Bruno Leps until 2021 Toby Tenenbaum until 2022 Brian McElwain until 2022 DOWNLOAD THE NOMINATION FORM Nomination Procedure: Directors are elected for terms up to three years and not elected to specific positions. The Board consists of eight Directors, and at its first meeting following the AGM will elect their officers. Directors must be Delegates and nominations can be made in three ways: 1) self-nominated 2) be nominated in advance by another Delegate, and this case must agree to serve if elected 3) be nominated by another Delegate at the AGM and the candidate must be present and agree to serve if elected Nominations received by the Nominations Committee Chair (Marcus Little) at least 48 hours prior to the AGM (Monday, March 25) will appear on pre-printed ballots and will be posted. The names of the candidates nominated after this deadline will be added to the ballots at the AGM. Candidates will be invited to present a short statement prior to the voting. The candidates receiving the highest votes will be elected. In order for its Delegates to be eligible to be nominated and/or vote, a housing group’s Membership Fee for 2019 must be received by the Treasurer prior to the start of the AGM. Delegates names must also be confirmed by their housing group prior to the start of the AGM. As a Directors, you are expected to:
