A reminder to join us for the Community Butt Blitz Clean Up on Apr 20, 2024 (10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Make it a social event and come with a friend. Meeting points are at The Toronto Sculpture Garden (114 King Street East) and Berczy Park (35 Wellington St. E.). All you need to bring with you are a pair of gloves and an up-cycled container to put the butts in. Help the community Kick Butt! Here are answers to some questions that have come in: Q: What type of gloves should be used to pick up butts? A: Volunteers are welcome to use whatever gloves work best for them! We recommend something they may already have on hand, i.e. old gardening gloves or work gloves that are reusable and can be washed. However, some volunteers prefer latex or disposable gloves as sometimes the cigarette butts can be wet during pickups which may soak through the fabric gloves. Top recommendations would be fabric gardening or work gloves, reusable rubber cleaning gloves (often used for doing dishes or cleaning bathroom spaces and can be washed in hot, soapy water and reused). If you do not have any gloves, disposable latex gloves will be provided. Q: What counts as an upcycled container? How big? What is the best thing to use? A: Any container with a lid that can be reused (ie. yogurt containers, coffee cans). Anything that is over 750g and easy to carry. Q: Do we gather at the end to aggregate our butts? A: When you are done, you can drop off your butts at the meeting point (Berczy Park or The Sculpture Garden) Q: Do you have to do the whole three hours (10 am - 1 pm) A: No, however much time you can volunteer would be much appreciated.
