Overnight Construction Not Ok

3/23/2018

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association is speaking out on the recent decision made by Mayor Tory and endorsed by our Councillor, Lucy Troisi to permit overnight construction in downtown neighbourhoods south of Dundas St.

This decision was made without consultation with the 30,000 residents of the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood nor any of the other 240,000 residents who call Toronto's downtown core home. We hope this was an oversight that can and will be corrected.

Below is the letter that was issued to Councillor Troisi today. We encourage all residents to contact Councillor Troisi (councillor_troisi@toronto.ca) and Mayor Tory (mayor_tory@toronto.ca) today.

Sleep is so important, please DO NOT DO THIS TO SO MANY RESIDENTS.

Thank you for your most serious consideration.

Just think if it was outside your bedroom all night long.

Why isn't the SLNA asking that this new rule be rescinded immediately pending actual public consultation?

Up to now I believed that, more-less, we were living in “Toronto the GOOD”. Over night it has turned into a “Toronto the City of BULLIES.
Our late, very respected, Representative, must be turning in her grave.
Would mayor Tory, councillor Troici and others, who had input into this bad decision, have the courage to make the same decision, and dare disturb the sleep of people in influential upscale neighbourhoods ?
The sleep is the Basic Human Right.
Tory and Troici obviously do not respect that.
“TO SLEEP or NOT to SLEEP” that is the Question, to be answered in the next Civic election this common Fall.

Just on my block alone we have lived through 5 condo builds over the last 7 years. We are suffering from condo fatigue. We have endured 7 years of hearing trucks backing into these sites with their high pitched “beep, beeps” from 3:30 am onwards.

We have a proposed condo for a high rise right in front of our apartment building. With this overnight construction happening in our faces, how will we and our children sleep? I cannot imagine this decision was made with any thought of the residents of this neighbourhood. This decision was based solely on expediting greed—which benefits developers and the city.

You have gone to far and this must stop.

Angel Narick constant complaining about her neighbourhood and neighbors lies somewhere else ! She is trap in very unhappy marriage and she is channeling her bitterness by GOSSIPING AND COMPLAINING most of the time about people she knows, her son's school and place she live ......... very sad.
