The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association was incorporated on February 14, 1983 so that means that in a few short weeks we will celebrate 40 YEARS of residents volunteering to serve and advocate on behalf of their neighbours for the benefit of this communitiy and the historic heart of Toronto. In honour of this event, the SLNA Events Committee, Chaired by Past President, Suzanne Kavanagh has organized a local "Love Lettering Project" that is essentially an open invitation for residents to help the SLNA generate 1000 love letters to our neighbourhood! You can write your letter at home and send to the SLNA at [email protected] or for more fun join one of our Letter Writing events on February, 4th, 5th or 14th (see details below). OLDER ADULTS-FOCUSED WORKSHOPS – EVERY WEDNESDAY With the support Jamii has received co-op housings in the neighbourhood like Woodsworth, Jamii is hosting older adults-focused workshops on Wednesdays throughout 2023! There will be a new program every few weeks. Movement-based Workshops: Every Wednesday until the end of Feb from 10am to 11:30am Watercolour Painting Workshops: Every Wednesday until the end of Feb from 11:30am to 1pm New programs for March will be announced in February. The City of Toronto is currently looking for engaged and enthusiastic residents to join the St. Lawrence Market Precinct Advisory Committee. The St. Lawrence Market is a renowned international food market featuring over 120 merchants, vendors and farmers, offering the freshest produce, meats and specialty items. The Market is a community and cultural hub in the heart of Toronto and a major historic site for the City. Serving residents of Toronto and international visitors since 1803, the Market is regularly recognized as one of Toronto's most popular destinations and is consistently ranked one of the world's top food markets. The St. Lawrence Market District is comprised of St. Lawrence Hall, the South Market and North Market – now in its temporary home at 125 The Esplanade. Members of the St. Lawrence Market Precinct Advisory Committee support and advocate the St. Lawrence Market, providing advice and recommendations to the City to enhance the Market and district for the benefit of the community and all Toronto residents. *** What does the St. Lawrence Market Precinct Advisory Committee do? The role of the St Lawrence Market Precinct Advisory Committee is to advise City staff on the following elements as they relate to the St. Lawrence Market district: (a) the long term strategic direction for the St. Lawrence Market district; (b) operational improvements to the Market district; (c) marketing and events planning and promotion; (d) tenant activities and relations (e) heritage conservation within the Market district; (f) capital projects, including the North Market Revitalization; (g) public outreach and consultation; (h) partnering opportunities; (i) setting of performance goals and benchmarks; and (j) other matters regarding the St. Lawrence Market district that the Manager wishes advice on. *** What qualifications do I need?
