Local arts-based community organization, Jamii, has created a theme for its activities this season called FEETPRINT. FEETPRINT is all about exploring the questions: Who am I? Where do I belong? How do I behave? FEETPRINT is a multi-layered storytelling project that sees 150 people of all ages sharing their stories by creating shoe designs using markers (a project inspired by Art on Sneakers http://martkd.com). Each designed shoe will become part of a collection that will grow throughout the summer season and will be displayed at different events. The intent of this effort is to ignite conversations about individual journeys and identities through the creative process of designing canvas shoes with markers. These journeys will inspire a participatory film project (2018) that will document activities and will be screened in the St. Lawrence community during December. Jamii is inviting senior residents of the St. Lawrence neighbourhood to design one shoe, which will join the growing collection of shoes and will be exhibited at Jamii's upcoming August FEETPRINT Live in the Park event. The shoe design takes place during a series of 3 workshops, led by local visual artist Kerryn Graham. Workshops (Location TBC) will take place: Tuesday Aug 15 2pm to 4pm Thursday Aug 17 2pm to 4pm Tuesday Aug 22 2pm to 4pm Followingt these workshops participants will be invited to put the final touch on their shoes on August 26th (6pm to 9pm) during "FEETPRINT Live in the Park” where the collection will be displayed. This series of 3 workshops are designed as a welcoming space to share your story with the group. There is no drawing experience necessary and no cost involved. To confirm your interest in this project, please contact Jamii by Monday August 7 via email: [email protected].
