The first Parliament Buildings of Upper Canada (1797 - 1824) were located right in our St. Lawrence Neighbourhood at Front and Parliament Streets in what was the heart of the former Town of York.
The "First Parliament" site and the area around it are historically significant, representing the industrial and commercial forces that helped shape the city. The First Parliament project is an effort from the City of Toronto to examine how the site can best be developed in order to tell important stories from its history and serve related community purposes. We invite you to access this promotion kit which is designed to create engagement and involvement in this project. It includes information about upcoming events, background information, and sample social media posts for those interested in helping to promote this important project in our neighbourhood. The first public event will take place on February 6 and will be a public lecture at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse from 6:30pm-8:00pm (doors open at 6:00pm). This event is free and open to the public. Register here. More information about the project can be found at firstparliament.ca.
