On September 16, SLNA welcomed over 35 attendees to its Metrolinx tour of the Union Station south concourse construction and related work in the eastern rail corridor (USRCE). Led by James Burchell of Metrolinx, the tour provided a soon to be covered overhead view of the construction of the new south concourse, which will complement the three existing concourses (Bay, York, VIA) when completed, and provide capacity for the expansion of GO service across the network. As well, the east corridor work, including relocating all of the above ground hydro infrastructure into conduit, shifting existing tracks, adding two new tracks, and tying-in with Ontario Line above ground construction between Parliament St. and the Don River was described and visible. The views from CIBC Elevated Park were exceptional, as is this newly completed above ground park venue -- located on the fourth floor of CIBC Square (81 and 141 Bay St.) and bridging over the Union Station rail corridor. A highly recommended visit all on its own, for those who haven't yet been. Thanks again to Metrolinx for hosting the event. A more extensive indoor tour of Union Station will be scheduled later in the fall. Watch the SLNA Newsletter for details. (sign up for the newsletter here).
